Who do you follow on social media?

We have all heard that quote, 'show me your friends, I'll show you your future'…

Well, recently I've been thinking about how this  could potentially apply to the people we follow on social media as well.

The average person spends approximately 6 hours and 58 minutes a day on their phone. So it's safe to say, we are spending a lot of 'hang out' time with the people we follow on social media. Which also means, this will be effecting our soul more than we realise.

Proverbs 4:23 -
’Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.’

During the pandemic in 2020 I felt the Holy Spirit speak to me about who I was following. We were all in lockdown and I was spending more time on my phone and social media than ever before. I was over-consuming and listening to many different voices. Even following too many Christian voices and influencers was getting loud for me. One day, I sensed the Holy Spirit give me a picture. The picture was of a tractor and there were about 5 people I followed on social media on the moving vehicle throwing seeds onto the soil it was driving over.

I felt Him say “pick only a couple of voices to listen to in this season, discern the right ones x”

I went through my social media and picked a couple of voices to mindfully consume and silenced the rest. It was like opening a window to my soul, and I swear it improved my mental health as well.

Who do you actually follow?
Are they wholesome?
Godly?
Lovely? True?
Inspiring? Noble?
Does their message add value to you?
Do they bring fruit to your mind and heart?
(joy, peace, kindness, see Galatians 5:22)

It might feel amazing for your soul to unfollow some accounts. Guarding our hearts for 'life to flow' can definitely apply to the daily content we consume.
