Hikes & Revelations with Christ by Annie Murphy

Holy Week, Holy Week Indeed, what can I say?

One of the most eye opening weeks of my whole life having recently come into my faith. I planned to climb Snowdon the day before Good Friday for my best friend’s birthday (not a Christian) and I was the only Christian in the group of 5 that were there!

A couple of weeks before I had this urge to build a cross and take it up Snowdon as my own personal walk of witness to what Jesus had to do on the cross for all of us on Good Friday! (I didn’t have what I needed to build this)

The day after having the revelation of wanting to do this act, I came across some wood, and some nails perfect size for what I wanted to do! I used my pyrography (wood burning) pen to burn the Hebrew words of Elohim and Yahweh into the cross. The night before I bleached a jumper I found in a charity shop, drew a cross and wrote Jesus saves on my back, so quite literally everyone who passed me on that mountain could at least read those words!

The Climb.

I personally don’t think I was fit enough or really understood how much of a challenge climbing a mountain was going to be. We started and instantly I knew it was going to be hard.

The beauty was overwhelming and the scenery was the best my eyes had ever laid eyes on. My feet hurt and I almost pulled a muscle in my leg too on the climb. When these things occurred, I really thought about what Jesus had to go through on that cross and the journey to the cross, and I said many of times on the way up, I am not being carried by my own strength but by the power of the cross.

Jesus didn’t once complain! And I didn’t want to because he is the inspiration. He carried me up that mountain, he held my hand, like he always has, he’s never let go.

When we got to the top of the mountain the views and getting there had me in tears. We continued to the peak and it was pretty cloudy. I was singing Hosana and I prayed and spoke with God and told him:

“it was you who said faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains, I don’t want you to move the mountains right now, that would be catastrophic 🤣, but please Lord move the clouds”

Suddenly the SUN comes beaming down on us and we can see the sea from the top of snowdon! All the way to the summit I’m just thanking him for such an awesome experience a life changing experience, an experience that has birthed a mountain lover straight away, just like our Jesus ✝️

I turned just an ordinary hike with some mates into a true pilgrimage and it’s a day I’ll never forget. I will most likely probably repeat with more people! Witnessing the true power of Christ and what he did on that cross in my own exhaustion was truly brilliant, I still had energy enough to skip along the path coming down 😅
