How do I spend time with God?

Scripture says something pretty cool about our bodies. It says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that you are a ‘temple of the Holy Spirit’. Imagine the most beautiful cathedral you have ever seen. There is something about these buildings that demand a natural reverence from people. This is a picture of how the Lord sees you.

You are a dwelling place of His Holy Spirit.

So now we know God is with us, how do we spend time with Him?

Time in His presence changes everything and your time with Him does not need to be complicated.

Where are your favourite places to talk to God? Mine is the beach, in my bed at night or on the trampoline. Jesus often withdrew into nature to spend time with the Father, we see this all throughout the gospels.

Find the place you connect with God and go there all the time.

The amazing thing about having the Holy Spirit is that He draws us near, but we also will need to be disciplined. It doesn’t have to look the same everyday though (don’t worry my fellow creative souls!)

We need our time with God, more than anything. The prayers you pray in your secret place will get out in your life. You will see the fingerprints of God all over your life. It will turn your life into an exciting adventure.

Get into a habit, and it will become the standard and a huge need. If I haven’t read my bible in a few days my soul FEELS that. I will get to a point where I need to read the word, and sit before Him or pray or worship in the same way I need water on a hot day. It’s why Jesus describes Himself in the bible as ‘daily bread’. He is the food for our soul.

How do I start spending time with God?

Just start. It will become a habit.
Start journaling your prayers. Cast all worries and requests unto Him.
Meditate on scripture. Start with the gospels and then all the way through the New Testament. Keep it simple.
Just be. Don’t strive. It’s okay if you sit in silence to begin with.
God will meet with you right there..
Dream about the things God has done in your life. Remember and go over the God stories from your life. This will strengthen you in faith.. maybe that is another blog post in itself.
Discover His nature through the scripture and encounter Him for real. You will you will you will.

’Draw near to Him and He WILL draw near to you’
John 4:8
