Why The Church Needs The Wild Ones.
I was raised in church but I never really knew Jesus personally.
I thought Christianity was mostly rules, religion, and trying not to mess up. I thought if you sinned God and Christians would kick you out (I know, pretty bad theology right there!)
I made too many mistakes and I just didn’t have that personal conviction that made it authentically my faith, so I walked away.
But after years of doing life my own way, I had an unexpected encounter with Jesus. Alone in my house a few months after decided to put Jesus first (after a big fat detour) I felt a tangible presence and I knew it was Jesus. A loving kindness filled my heart, it was so loving I was brought to tears of repentance. In that moment in my heart I suddenly understood what the gospel really meant. I knew Jesus was real, in that moment my heart was the Lord’s.
I couldn’t believe how wrong I’d been in my beliefs about Him and the church. He wasn’t controlling. He wasn’t waiting to shame me. And I would come to learn the church is full of the most amazing people.
My relationship with Him was alive, joyful, and freeing.
Nothing I’d experienced before even the highs I’d been chasing compared to knowing Him. I can’t believe I avoided Jesus for so long when /he is so good!
A lot of wild hearts need the messy journey to Christ, but a lot never come back to the church because of fear of being controlled by a religious system.
When you have free spirit.. you run a mile at any form of control!
When I returned to church I didnt know this in my heart, but one normal day, I really sensed the Holy Spirit strongly whilst I was reading my bible.
I felt the overwhelming acceptance of God.
Then I heard Him speak clearly in my heart:
“ I made you wild.” And He led me to Psalm 139.
I realised…
God intentionally knit me together.
He wasn’t trying to make me someone else. He already knew me. He delights in who He created me to be, and you too!
I was never supposed to squeeze into a religious box and neither were you!
To the round pegs in square holes…The truth seekers.
The free thinkers. The creatives. The spiritual ones.
The question askers. The misfits. God made you.
He understands you. And He hasn’t forgotten you.
The Church isn’t complete without people like you. You bring prophetic insight, on fire evangelism, creativity, passion, dance, compassion and justice! You are SO valuable in the church.
In 1 Corinthians 12, we’re told the Church is like a body.
Every part matters and has a special role to play.
